Water Forum at the Expo 2015 in Milan

From 1 May to 31 October 2015, Milan will be hosting the world exhibition Expo Milano 2015. On 4 May the Expo will already highlight an important topic with its Water Forum, which in addition to various presentations includes a panel discussion on the topic "New challenges for Alpine water management!"

The four cantons within the Gotthard region – Grisons, Uri, Ticino and Valais – will take the opportunity to showcase themselves at the exhibit "AcquaViva San Gottardo – Of Water and Mountains" in the Swiss Pavilion at the Expo Milano 2015. The world exhibition, which expects to welcome millions of visitors from around the world from 1 May until the end of October, has chosen as its theme "Nutrire il pianeta, energia per la vita" (Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life).

An important topic will already be highlighted on 4 May: the findings of various research projects on climate change and water indicate that the Alpine region (including Switzerland) will be among those affected by the changes. Prof Rolf Weingartner and Dr Bruno Schädler (Hydrology, Institute of Geography, University of Bern), two of the researchers working on National Research Project 61 "Sustainable Water Management", will outline the relevance of the mountains to the water supply. The Water Forum provides a framework for discussing the challenges facing water management in the Alps.
